Netflix’s new South Korean survival show, Squid Game, is probably the talk of the town. Due to its captivating plot, crazy games, and unforeseen betrayals, the drama is garnering fame every hour. Not only has Squid Game won hearts in South Korea, but it is doing wonders in other parts of the world. Besides the storyline, Squid Game cast members act as the most significant factor of its fame. Mimicking the popular South Korean 1980 game, Squid Game introduced us to Seong Gi-Hun, who mooches off his elderly mother, and fails to provide for his daughter. After losing all his hope to earn money, he receives an offer to play traditional Korean children’s games against 455 other plays. If he wins, he will earn ₩45.6 billion. Thinking of it as a huge opportunity, he accepts, only to face the deadly consequences of losing.

The supporting cast comprises Heo Sung Tae (as Jang Deok Soo), Anupam Tripathi (as Ali Abdul), Kim Joo Ryung (as Han Mi Nyeo), Lee Yoo Mi (as Ji Yeong), Kim Young Ok (Oh Mal Soon), Yoo Sung Jae (as Byeong Ki), and many others.

  1. Lee Jung Jae as Seong Gi-Hoon

Starting his career in 1993 as a fashion model, Lee Jung Jae initially began his acting career by appearing in minor roles on Television. His career skyrocketed after his film An Affair in 1998. Jung-Jae then went to do films in almost all genres and was a part of hits such as  Il Mare (2000) and Over the Rainbow (2002), melodrama Last Present (2001),  action films The Last Witness (2001) and Typhoon (2005), comedy Oh! Brothers (2003),  heist film The Thieves (2012), film noir New World (2013), and period film The Face Reader (2013).

Apart from films, Jung-Jae has also proved himself as one of the most successful actors in the Kdrama world. He rose to fame with Feelings in 1994. Moreover, his other dramas are Sandglass, Air City, Triple, Cheif of Staff, and Delayed Justice. With Squid Game, he proved that he could excel in all genres, films, and dramas.

     2. Park Hae Soo as Choi Sang Woo

Park Hae Soo plays Choi Sang Woo in Squid Game, and his villainy side in the drama has earned him excessive fame. Just like Jung Jae, he belongs to the world of both films and Kdramas. Managed by BH Entertainment, he made his debut in 2007 with Mister Lobby. Hae-Soo earned fame with his role in Prison Playbook (2017). The actor has also been a part of hit Kdramas such as The Legend of The Blue Sea, Racket Games, Memories of Alhambra, and more. However, until now, he has led only two Kdramas – Squid Game and Prison Playbook.

But, get ready to see more of the actor. Hae-Soo has three Korean dramas – Money Heist, Suriname, Chimaira- lined up in the future. All of them are highly anticipated, and you can catch him playing the leading role.

     3. Jung Ho Yeon as Kang Sae Byeok

Jung Ho Yeon from Squid Game is probably the only cast member who has garnered the most attention on Social Media. Dubbed as “Korea’s Next Top Model” by Vogue, Jung Ho-Yeon proved that she is more than a pretty face. Born in 1994, Ho-Yeon has walked several runways and done multiple photoshoots. But, her fandom increased after the release of Squid Game. The Netflix drama was her first-ever TV drama, where she played Kang Sae Byeok, a North Korean defector, who entered the game to help her family suffering across the border.

        4. Wi Ha Joon as Hwang Joon

Another actor and model, Wi Ha Joon, is a part of Squid Game’s cast list. Placed under MSTeam Entertainment, Wi made his debut in 2012. The actor has since then been a part of several Korean dramas and films. You can find him in dramas like Something in the Rain, 18 Again, Romance is a Bonus Book, With Coffee, My Golden Life, and more. Wi Ha-Joon is returning soon to the Kdrama world with shows – Bad and Crazy and Que Sera Sera.

Supporting Characters – Who is The Indian Guy in Squid Game?

The main cast indeed lifted the storyline of the drama. However, the supporting actors are getting equal love from fans. Social media is filled with posts related to “Squid Game,” and one character receives a lot of attention (besides Jung Ho Yeon). Anupam Tripathi, who plays Ali Abdul in Squid Game, is an Indian actor from New Delhi. He is playing a foreign worker from Pakistan who joins the game to provide for his family. Tripathi’s acting has won millions of hearts. But, this is not the first time he appeared in Kdramas.

Another cast member of Squid Game who stole our hearts was Kim Joo Ryung, who played Han Mi Nyeo. Her manipulative character made everyone hate her, but Kim’s acting was truly remarkable. Oh, Yeong Su and Heo Sung Tae also star in the drama as Oh Il-nam and Jang Deok-su. Gong Yoo (Goblin) also made a small cameo to win our hearts.

Squid Game Season 2 – Will It Happen?

Until now, there has been no confirmed news regarding Squid Game season 2. But, its popularity can make Netflix renew the drama. The series has turned into a worldwide phenomenon and was in the top 10 shows on Netflix immediately after its release.

The survival show comes from critically acclaimed South Korean director and screenwriter Hwang Dong-Hyuk. Hwang has expressed his views on S2 and said he currently has no plans to create Squid Game season 2. He is happy with the show’s success, but he will take time to jump back into making another season.

Hwang is known for leading a One-Man Army and mainly works on his projects alone. Some of his hits include Silenced, Miss Granny, and The Fortress. 

We have to wait for Netflix and Hwang to answer the question on Squid Games season 2. Nevertheless, Netflix has verified that Squid Game is on its way to becoming its most successful original series. We hope to see S2 with the original Squid Game cast reprising roles.
