SPY×FAMILY: Everything We Know
Written and illustrated by Tatsuya Endo, SPY×FAMILY has gained popularity since its serialization on the Shōnen Jump+ app and website in 2019 and has collected 11 volumes as of date.
SPY×FAMILY creatively blends the spy genre with comedy, romance, and action. As Twilight carries out his covert operations, readers can really see how intense and spontaneously skilled he is. From “risking it all” missions to undercover missions, the story keeps the readers on the edge of their seats, turning the pages faster than they can read.
Endo has a knack for storytelling, and his attention to detail makes every mission feel engaging and almost realistic. With greatly written characters and unexpected turns, the story continually does something new and exciting, making the series an instant classic.
Tatsuya Endō, the original manga creator, handles the original work and character designs for the film, as well as supervises its production. The animation will be handled by WIT STUDIO and CloverWorks, with Takashi Katagiri directing the film. The scripts are written by Ichiro Okouchi, and the characters are designed by Kazuaki Shimada and Kana Ishida.
The Plot and Characters of the Series
At the heart of SPY×FAMILY lies a truly unconventional family. Meet Twilight, a suave, sexy, and highly skilled spy who is assigned a mission to infiltrate a prestigious school. For this, Twilight must create a “seemingly ordinary” family with a wife and child.
Enter Yor Forger, an assassin with a dark backstory who becomes Twilight’s pretend wife, and to complete the big show, they adopt a young girl named Anya, who can read minds. Very normal, right?
Each member of this make-believe family holds a secret, unaware of the other’s true identities. Living every day with each other does form a bond, and so this trio of strangers becomes the most adorable and powerful family there is right now.
The main characters include Loid Forger, the father of Anya and a secret spy, and Yor Forger, the wife of Loid and mother of Anya, she is a trained killer. Finally, Anya, a telepath and the daughter of Loid and Yor.
While the series is mainly about spies and action, the series’ true attention-catcher lies in its characters and their relationships. Twilight usually flexes his spying skills but now has to act as a good father and husband, Yor, the fiercely independent woman, learns to trust and love again, and Anya (best girl), the telepathic child, gets the affection and friendship she always wanted.
Hilarious and cute interactions come alive as the “family” attend school projects, parent-teacher meetings, and social events. The parallel of their secret lives with their public life becomes funny and heartfelt, making the reader emotionally invested in their journey.
