SPY x Family Episode 14 Review

As the episode ended last week, Yor rescues Anya. Yor informs the police about the attack and the information Anya has given her as soon as she is safe. Yor is on the phone when Anya rides off, leaving him worried about her safety once more and on the hunt for her. Since Anya is desperately trying to save Loid from a terrorist bomb, I was afraid the show might have her come up with plans or take actions that are beyond her ability.

She manages the crisis better than she should, but never deviates from her previous skills. Even though the girl has a significant presence in the plot, the show makes sure that all of the solutions she comes up with, which feel like they would come up from a child, are still impactful. While the majority of Spy x Family Episode 14 is spent on Anya’s search for Loid and her fear for his life, it also spends some time at the offices of WISE as they strive to learn more about the scheme.

This sequence becomes darker in comparison to what this series has dealt with thus far as Loid’s employer, known only as Handler, approaches the baddies with a gun in hand. She describes many of the horrible outcomes of the war they are trying to provoke as she approaches the now tied-up villains. History books don’t mention these terrifying moments, but they occur thousands of times during a war. We also see Loid shine in this story as he executes his various spy skills. It shows just how little people who seek war know about war.

In addition to Yor being the most physically threatening member of the family, Loid also needs to be more than a match for most if he is to be the world’s greatest spy. This story is perfectly portrayed by the animation, as always. Anya’s reactions to the many obstacles she faces are pure comedic gold, and the show delivers its dark moment in the integration room just as skillfully. The animators here have no problem doing anything at this point.
