The film entered Friday with approximately $899.7 million in North American ticket sales after earning $30.4 million during its fifth week. It is now the fastest movie ever to reach $900 million domestically, beating the previous record held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which required 50 days to hit the same milestone.

The latest milestone puts Spider-Man: Brand New Day within reach of The Force Awakens’ domestic record. The 2015 Star Wars sequel finished its theatrical run with approximately $936.6 million in North America, meaning the latest Spider-Man movie needs less than $40 million more to become the highest-grossing movie ever at the U.S. and Canadian box office.

Brand New Day has also demonstrated remarkable staying power despite entering its fifth week of release. Deadline reports that the movie is expected to earn around $18 million over the Friday-to-Monday Labor Day weekend, potentially pushing its domestic total considerably closer to the current record.

The achievement adds another milestone to an already extraordinary theatrical run for Tom Holland’s fourth solo Spider-Man movie. The film opened with a record-setting domestic debut and previously became the fastest movie to cross several major box office thresholds. Variety reported that Brand New Day also reached $1 billion worldwide in only six days, making it the second-fastest film to achieve that milestone after Avengers: Endgame.

The movie’s domestic performance is particularly notable because Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now chasing one of the most recognizable box office records in North America. If it overtakes The Force Awakens, it would become the first film to hold the domestic record since the 2015 blockbuster.

With the Labor Day weekend underway and the film still generating substantial ticket sales, the remaining gap is relatively small.
