SEGA rolled out a wave of announcements during Summer Game Fest 2026, but one of the most content-heavy updates focused on Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. The company revealed new crossover packs, upcoming seasonal content, and a glimpse at the game’s long-term roadmap, highlighting how the title will continue to expand well into 2026 and beyond.
While the game originally launched in 2025, this latest showcase makes it clear that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is being positioned as a live-service style racer with ongoing updates and major crossover events.
TMNT Pack Brings Mutant Mayhem to the Racetrack
One of the biggest reveals is the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pack, set to release in July 2026. Inspired by the animated film Mutant Mayhem, the pack introduces all four turtles, Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo, as playable racers.
Alongside the characters, the update will include new themed vehicles, race tracks, and music based on the TMNT universe. This continues CrossWorlds’ trend of blending Sonic’s world with other major franchises, turning each update into a distinct crossover experience.
The gameplay reveal showcased how these characters integrate into the existing racing system, maintaining the fast-paced style while adding visual variety and fan-service elements.
Avatar Pack Expands Gameplay With Elemental Abilities
Following the TMNT update, SEGA confirmed that an Avatar-themed pack will arrive in October 2026. This crossover introduces characters like Aang and Katara, bringing a different flavor to the racing experience.
The Avatar pack is expected to include new tracks, vehicles, music, and emotes, all inspired by the series. The teaser also hinted at abilities tied to elemental bending, suggesting that gameplay mechanics could evolve further with each crossover release.
By introducing characters from completely different worlds, CrossWorlds continues to lean into its core idea of racing across dimensions and styles.

Year Two Content Teases Even Bigger Crossovers
Looking beyond 2026, SEGA also offered a sneak peek at Year Two content for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Among the highlights are upcoming Godzilla and Evangelion packs, both of which promise larger-scale designs and more dramatic race environments.
Season Pass Two will include a total of six new content packs, though full details are expected later this year. This structured rollout suggests a long-term plan to keep the game active with regular updates and fresh content drops.
The focus on major crossover IPs indicates that SEGA is aiming to turn CrossWorlds into a hub for multi-franchise racing experiences.
A Racing Game Built Around Constant Evolution
At its core, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is designed to offer a constantly changing experience. The game features racing across land, sea, air, and even space, with Travel Rings acting as a key mechanic that shifts players between different tracks mid-race.
According to its official Steam page, races can dynamically change as players move between dimensions, adding unpredictability to every lap. The game also includes a large roster of Sonic characters, customizable vehicles, and multiple modes ranging from solo play to online multiplayer.
This foundation makes it well-suited for ongoing updates, as new characters and tracks can be seamlessly integrated into the existing system.
