A winter storm watch alert has been issued for southern Saskatchewan, forecasting the possibility of receiving up to 35 centimeters of snowfall throughout the upcoming weekend.
According to Environment Canada, snowfall accumulations are projected to range from 25 to 35 cm, accompanied by wind gusts reaching speeds of 60 to 70 km/h. The storm is anticipated to commence on Saturday morning and persist until Monday night.
Environment Canada has advised residents to refrain from traveling if feasible, cautioning that reduced visibility should be anticipated.
Additionally, the Government of Canada has provided recommendations for individuals who may become stranded in their vehicles during a blizzard, emphasizing the importance of staying inside their cars.
“You can run the car engine about 10 minutes every half-hour if the exhaust system is working well. Beware of exhaust fumes and check the exhaust pipe periodically to make sure it is not blocked with snow.
Remember: you can’t smell potentially fatal carbon monoxide fumes,” the government website said.
The government suggests exercising your hands and feet intermittently to maintain warmth and advises against falling asleep. Furthermore, residents are cautioned by the government not to overexert themselves if attempting to shovel around their vehicles.
