Episode 8 of Silent Witness season 27 is the second half of a two-part tale. After much flirting, Nikki and Jack share a passionate kiss at a funeral, and we finally find out who Oceanfloor is!
At the start of the show, Nikki tells everyone about the needle mark she discovered on the victim’s body, even the shady Elinor (Julie Graham). Gabriel claims he received an injection of something that caused a cardiac arrest and was not included in a typical toxicology report.
Jack reveals that the victim’s coat has fingerprints on it. Kenny Tate’s fingerprints are on them. DC Alice Kirk (played by Tessa Wong) is aware of Kenny. She asks the homeless man how the victim came to have his coat.
Recap
Elinor sends Oceanfloor another covert message. “You never did and you don’t want the truth. only wish to have power over me.”
“Consider Adam,” Oceanfloor responds. Elinor asserts that she is aware of what a “deep fake” is, then threatens to call out your nonsense if her son doesn’t get on a video call.
When Nikki discovers that the tox results were fabricated, she informs Jack, who looks at Elinor suspiciously. The victim was fatally dosed with insulin, according to the tox results.
Jack informs Gabriel, Nikki, and DI John Flynn (Sean Pertwee) of his suspicions. The victim is seen in Alice’s CCTV footage stealing the coat and—more importantly—Elinor from a nearby car!
John holds Elinor. Elinor makes the decision to tell the team what she did. She claims to have heard varying accounts regarding the victim’s actual intentions. Elinor claims that she waived her immigration laws for him.
She clarifies that she took that action after being informed that it was her only chance to see her son again. She claims to have learned this from an online acquaintance whose daughter vanished during their year off.
According to the online contact, the victim was the one responsible for everything and they could get answers about what happened to their children from him if she assisted in bringing him into the country.
Then, a flashback shows Elinor confronting Htin by the river prior to him being taken by the van and given an insulin injection. Elinor claims she became addicted to internet conspiracy theories because she was unable to accept her son’s death.
She claims to have spoken with Oceanfloor, who says their daughter vanished. Jack believes Oceanfloor has been manipulating Elinor. Elinor is informed by Nikki that her son’s recent video is probably a fake and that he has passed away.
At a community center, Nikki meets a pathologist who has close ties to Myanmar. According to him, the victim was probably present at the massacre in Myanmar. Then May enters! She declares her spouse to be the victim.
Jack thinks a large, influential person must be behind it all. May is shown what appears to be a video of her husband shooting at someone during the massacre after the body has been formally identified.
The video, according to her, is fake. She claims he traveled to the UK to provide a reporter with the massacre’s story. According to her, hatred stoked by social media contributed to the massacre.
With May’s assistance, Velvy gains access to the Htin’s phone. They text Cornflower, a contact on his phone. Cornflower claims he shouldn’t have trusted the journalist Fish and is irritated that they haven’t heard from the Htin.
Gabriel received an email from Elinor, presumably sent prior to her passing, cautioning him not to put his trust in anyone!
