Toranaga’s rivals sent an assassin to kill Blackthorne in Osaka, but Toranaga outsmarted them by switching rooms, allowing him to defeat the attacker. With Blackthorne and Mariko, they prepare to journey from Osaka to Edo. Mariko shares Toranaga’s past as a hostage in Edo with Blackthorne.
To avoid detection, Toranaga disguises himself as a woman during travel. Blackthorne distracts a suspicious samurai by feigning concern for women’s privacy.
