Serena’s grandmother, however, was given a personal sponsorship, but it meant that she sold herself to the sponsor. A compromise she wasn’t willing to make, and thus she dropped the craft altogether and focused on becoming a sponsor herself. She didn’t want the girls in the future to be bitter about life and Balle for not getting a sponsor.

Serena Chapter 46 will take us to the present, but after going through a few more incidents of the past. So far, we have learned why the grandmother was forceful in getting Serena married to the most hateful in the empire. From her perspective, it was for her good that she settled with someone like him. But we know that our protagonist has been rebelling since the beginning of the series.
Serena will never know what her grandmother went through. And her grandmother is not someone that would bring out the dark times of her past just like that.
This is why the conflict between these two will continue for some time, only to be resolved much later in the story. However, given that we now know where the two stand, there is bound to be a conflict that will tear the two apart.
