Colin Jost, who is married to Scarlett Johansson, had to drag his wife into the joke swap segment with Michael Che on “Saturday Night Live.” Last week was the long-running show’s final episode of the year, and the hosts of the “weekend update” segment of SNL wrote brutal jokes.
Due to the customary ritual of holding a final show before the new year, the comedians Jost and Che of the “Weekend Update” hosted the episode, on which former cast member Kate McKinnon also made a comeback to host the show.
On the same episode of the show, following the political, cultural, and other sector jokes, Colin roasted his wife Scarlett and her movies, as the comedian said he can watch her movies now because New York State has permitted the sale of alcohol in theatres.
Colin Jost roasted his wife, Scarlett Johansson, on SNL.
The final episode before the end of the year was hosted by Colin Jost and Michael Che, along with former host Kate McKinnon. In the episode, Che continued to bring out the fictional poet, author, and activist Dr. Hattie Davis, sit along on the seat, and give his reaction to all the jokes that seemingly sounded merciless and outrageous to him.
The show was running with regular jokes on politics, culture, and a few current happenings until it took an unexpected turn to personal topics. The news of the theatres allowing the sale came up, and Jost had dragged his wife into the script of the joke swap.
While Jost read, “New York State now allows movie theatres to sell alcohol,” after which he dragged himself into it by saying, “Which is how I’m finally able to enjoy my wife’s little art movies?” As Johansson’s Marvel film Black Widow appeared on the screen, it seemed like Jost just roasted his wife for her work on his show.
Scarlett mentioned earlier that she has a fragile ego, and that’s why she doesn’t have an Instagram account. Being aware of the fact that it might be uncomfortable for his wife, Jost tried to cover up his previously spoken words by comparing her with Coretta Scott King.
Just after his roasting statements, Josh cringles and continues reading, “I’m kidding, honey. I love all of your movies. And if you ask me, you’re an even better ‘Black Widow’ than Coretta Scott King,” when the camera turns towards Dr. Dravis, who was there to show reaction to all the jokes of the night, was appalled after witnessing Jost reconciling his cringe love for his wife on the set.
Till now, no reaction has been witnessed by Scarlett on this part of the episode, nor any comments by her representatives.
Jost had once roasted his wife in the previous season during a joke swap in 2020. The recent episode was not the first time; instead, it was the first time Jost had roasted Johansson’s work after she had faced some criticism in the past due to her specific roles as a Japanese character.
Back then, by quipping up the criticism Johansson had faced, while swapping jokes on the show Jost had said, “It was announced that Creed singer Scott Stapp will play Frank Sinatra in an upcoming movie. But the good news is, Sammy Davis Jr. will be played by Scarlett Johansson.”.
Johansson previously did make a comment after this episode where she was roasted by Jost and straightforwardly said that she believes she holds all the rights to play whatever character she wants, and the decision is up to her.
In 2019, while talking to As If about her profession, Scarlett told the Outlet se has the right of choice , as the actor said, “As an actor, I should be allowed to play any person, or any tree, or any animal because that is my job and the requirements of my job” Scarlett also had said that, “There are a lot of social lines being drawn now, and a lot of political correctness is being reflected in art.” to the outlet.
