After the first episode of SNL on 20 January, the NBC series has something more exciting for their viewers coming up. On Friday, 19 January, NBC announced on their official Instagram account that they were bringing SexyBack, aka Justin Timberlake, to Saturday Night Live, after 10 years.
After making his first performance on the show in 2000 alongside ‘’NSync bandmates, he will now be seen again in the year 2024, as he will be making a comeback to the gig along with Dakota Johnson, who will be serving as a host for the episode.
Saturday Night Live brings Justin Timberlake back to the gig.
Saturday Night Live has their SexyBack, Justin Timberlake, on the show, almost after 10 years. The NBC series Saturday Night Live made an official announcement on their Instagram account through a post that says that Timberlake will be seen on the upcoming Saturday, January 27, as a musical guest on an SNL gig for the first time since 2013.
On the same episode, Timberlake will be seen as a musical guest, and Dakota Johnson will serve as the host of the same episode. Dakota and Timberlake are not unknown to each other, as they shared the screen in 2010 during The Social Network, in which Johnson played a Stanford French major who gets surprised by the fact that she spends the night with Sean Parker (Timberlake), the founder of Napster.
Timberlake has appeared on the show many times; the first time was when he performed on the SNL alongside his ‘NSyn bandmates in 2000. After that, he appeared on the show solo, both as a host and as a musical guest, in 2003, 2006, and 2013.
Timberlake had appeared on the show had appeared on the show last in 2013, for an episode that was hosted by Jimmy Fallon, and Timberlake appeared as a solo musical guest. In 2009, he hosted the show SNL with the musical guest Ciara, and again in 2012, with Lady Gaga as the musical guest.
Timberlake and SNL have had a longstanding relationship over the years, as he has been seen doing other things on the show as well, for example, his dancing Mascot character and his D-K in a Box collaboration with Lonely Island, which also serves as the most memorable contribution to the show.
Timberlake’s appearance on January 27 on SNL will mark his latest appearance on the show as a musical guest following his long-awaited next album teaser release.
That seems to have happened before his appearance on the show. On 16 January, Timberlake was noticed giving a response to a TikTok user who asked, ‘New Music???’ to which Timberlake responded with a video of himself in which he is seen wordlessly counting on his fingers six times before he raising eyebrows.
On 18 January, a series of pictures was posted by Timberlake on his Instagram page, out of which the first picture was a missing person poster with the words, “HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN? Justin Timberlake,” and the other pictures looked like a behind-the-scenes glimpse.
Could this be a sign for the ones who have been waiting for Timberlake’s next album? Well, Timberlake’s Instagram post was captioned with “EITIW,” which leads to the theory that the letters might symbolize the name of his forthcoming single or album.
This week is a week of adventure for Timberlake, as before his SNL return, he is traveling to perform at the Orpheum Theatre in Memphis on Friday, which is his hometown as well. The news was brought to his attention through an Instagram post he had made earlier this month with the caption, “Going home, Memphis 1/19.”
Studio 8H was taken over by Jacob Elordi, Rachel McAdams, and Renee Rapp for the first SNL episode of 2024 as the hosts and musical guests before Timberlake and Johnson will take it this week or the second episode of 2024.
In the SNL 20th January episode, Renee, who played the role of Regina George in the 2024 musical remake of The Mean Girls, was introduced by the original Regina George, aka Rachel McAdams, from The Mean Girls (2004).
Saturday Night Live is on NBC on Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET.
