Salman Rushdie used to work as a copywriter for Ogilvy & Mather, who were an advertising company. One of his famous novels, “Midnight’s Children,” was written during his time at the agency. Rushdie’s first novel was Grimus, which was published in 1975. “Midnight’s Children” was published in 1981. It made him win the Booker Prize and helped him establish his name in the writing world. He stated in one of his interviews that he opposes using autobiographical character.

His fourth book “Satanic Verses” created a controversy in the Islam following countries. He even got death threats for his books and was even put on an assassination list by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the Supreme Leader of Iran. In 2007, he was awarded the Knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II. In 2008, he ranked thirteen among the top fifty all British writers since 1945.

They were for five years, from 1988 to 1993. With his third wife, Elizabeth West, they had a son named Milan. He was married from 1997 to 2004. Salman Rushdie married Padman Lakshmi in 2004. The couple separated on 2nd July 2007.
