This International Women’s Day just got more special. It received a thunderous response to the teaser of the Parineeti Chopra starrer ‘Saina’. The makers have now launched the theatrical trailer of the badminton champion, ‘Saina Nehwal’. Saina is all set to release on March 26th of 2021. The film, which will chronicle the life of Saina, has been in the making for a long time. However, back in 2019, Parineeti had put out some posts of her grueling practice sessions. But previously, actor  Shraddha Kapoor had signed on to play the lead role. It is directed by ‘Amole Gupte’ and produced by ‘Bhushan Kumar’.

Therefore, the teaser shows the grooming of Saina from a young enthusiast to a professional. Saina’s fierce determination comes through. “Saamne koi bhi ho, main toh bas maar dungi (I don’t care who my opponent is, I will simply go for the kill),” she says. We briefly get a glimpse of Parineeti as Saina at the end of the 30-second teaser.

About the Trailer of ‘Saina’

The nearly two-minute-long trailer of ‘Saina’ shows the dreams of Saina. It depicts how a girl from a small village in Haryana dreams about becoming the world’s no 1 badminton player. Moreover, how her parents help her out in fulfilling her dream. The trailer then shifts its focus on highlighting the hardships and obstacles that the ace badminton player faces. Before getting back into the game with full force and proving herself to be an outstanding player.

It also took several stepping stones for Parineeti to get into playing the titular role in Saina Nehwal’s biopic. Thus, looking at the film’s trailer, audiences would be glad that she came on board. Moreover, the actor seems to have nailed Saina’s look in the trailer. The player’s stance and body language on the badminton court to her bond with her parents are all on point.

Saina’s story is not just aspirational but also inspirational for the youth. Thus, this is a major reason why Amole and Bhushan decided to translate the same on celluloid. While many know the triumphs and victories Saina achieved, most are unaware of what went behind to fulfill those dreams. A woman who always stood out in the crowd made India proud. Saina has always shown the ultimate power of ‘she’. Director Amole Gupte shares, “Saina has inspired millions of women out there. She is a true example of a strong female icon in the country today. Therefore, Parineeti has put a lot of effort to represent Saina authentically.”

Why Shraddha Kapoor got replaced?

Shraddha had begun working on the Amole Gupte directorial last year in September. But something or the other kept coming in the way of the shooting. Firstly, she was diagnosed with dengue. Secondly, she got busy with the shooting of ‘Saaho’ and ‘Street Dancer 3D’. She was supposed to resume work on the film this April. However, now the Bhushan Kumar Production has decided to go ahead with Parineeti Chopra.

The cast of the movie

Besides Parineeti, ‘Saina’ features Manav Kaul, Ankur Vikal, Meghna Malik, and Shubrajyoti Bharat. The biopic also has music by Amaal Mallik.

Why did Saina’s Poster get trolled?

A few days back, ‘Saina’ biopic starring Parineeti Chopra in the lead was released online. While many loved it, there were also a few who trolled it. Pointed out that the makers mistakenly goofed up on the badminton serve which looks more like a tennis serve. The ‘Saina’ poster has been designed by Rahul Nanda, who reveals the meaning behind it. Rahul Nanda said that it signifies ‘Saina Nehwal’ as the flying shuttle. Moreover, the hand represents the National colors is every aspiring Indian girl child. Girls who aim to reach greater heights just like Saina. Not just that, the title logo of the film is also artistically created.

The poster received appreciation from noteworthy names in the industry. They include Farhan Akhtar, Atul Kasbekar, and several others. Also, this received ample support from other names in the entertainment industry. They include global icon Priyanka Chopra Jonas. Along with this, the sport’s fraternity including six-time Grand Slam title laureate Sania Mirza, Table Tennis Olympian Mouma Das. The other people include ace wrestler Sangram Singh, Indian para-badminton champ Sukant Kadam. Moreover, the Olympic athlete Geeta Phogat, the Badminton Olympian Jwala Gutta have appreciated it. There are other International Badminton Players including Thailand’s Sapsiree Taerattanachai, Scotland’s Kirsty Gilmour, and Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt.

Saina Nehwal says, “Everything is quite surreal. What I have achieved in life is all due to the constant support of my family. It has indeed been my huge honor to play a sport I love. I wish the team all the best for the film and hope everyone leaves the theatre with dreams.”

Parineeti shares, “It’s a huge responsibility to essay someone like Saina Nehwal on screen. She is a legend herself and I was very scared about how people will react too. However, I’m overwhelmed with the love we are also getting from all over the world. Particularly, the film is a celebration of the unending spirit that lies in each woman.”

Bhushan Kumar concludes, “Saina is a film not only just about Saina Nehwal’s journey to success.
