The long-awaited Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake may finally have its first tentative release window.
Saber Interactive’s newly appointed Chief Business Officer, Steve Allison, recently suggested that the remake could arrive in 2028, although the studio has clarified that the comment should not be treated as an official launch target.
According a confirmation from Saber Interactive, Allison made the remark while discussing the company’s future publishing strategy and upcoming projects.
Steve Allison mentions KOTOR remake in Saber’s 2028 plans
Responding to community questions about Saber’s future business model, Allison explained that the company is preparing to expand its self-publishing efforts over the next few years. While outlining its future lineup, he wrote,
“We are preparing to do more self publishing and I’m here to organize the group in preparation of the lineup for 2028 … that includes Space Marine, [John] Wick, hopefully [the] KOTOR remake and a few unannounced titles.”
Following the post, a Saber Interactive representative confirmed to PC Gamer that Allison’s message was authentic. However, the studio emphasized that it “is not an official statement on the state or release targets” of any announced projects.

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was originally announced in 2021, but development has faced numerous setbacks, including reported delays, a change in development studios, and major restructuring within Embracer Group before Saber became an independent company.
Earlier this year, Saber CEO Tim Willits reassured fans that the remake
“is still in development,”
offering little additional information about its progress.
While Allison’s comment provides the strongest indication yet that Saber is targeting a 2028 release window, the company’s clarification suggests fans should view that timeline as an internal hope rather than a confirmed launch date. Until Saber shares official details, the highly anticipated remake remains one of the gaming industry’s biggest unanswered questions.
