After an amazing episode 9, which is considered to be the first part of the upcoming two-episode-long finale of the ninth season, this episode was meant to be the short half of the final, with the following episode of more than twenty-five minutes long. It was titled “A Tale Involving a Tree”, which was a direct reference to the Great Tree of the Ever After.

The episode begins with the telling of the story, narrator by none other than Summer Rose, we now have Summer’s voice in the show, and her actress as well, Morgan Laure. Summer is reading the tale of a girl who fell through the world to her daughters, a young Yang and Ruby, who are peacefully asleep in their home.
Summer is reading seemingly at the end of the story. As Alex has gotten to the tree, there were many questions swirling around in her head after all of the experiences and things that she is learned about the people that she has met and lost, would she still be the same person when she returned home.

After that, the leaves of the tree rustle she heard a final question, “What are you?”, that is the final question that Alex was confronted with and the very same question that Ruby has to answer at the end of the volume as well.
Before we see the answer to that question might be though, we see Jaune, along with Weiss Blake, and Yang, as they are fleeing in Neo’s Mansion, obviously shaken and confused by what they have just witnessed. They are heading back to the paper pleasers’ acre, and Jaune is questioning seemingly everything that he has been through.
First, Alex the Paper Pleasers, and now Ruby, what is it that this world wants as he gets back to Acre, he is questioning what it was that he had done wrong and why tries to comfort him, saying that we will figure this out but before they can actually come up with the plan, someone else comes to greet them.
A star-shaped crystal person, says that you are obviously upset, is there anything he can help ask them if there is anything at which he can help. It says that if they are hungry, it can offer them food but Jaune at first was all refusing to help and then realize something and ask it what it is, where it introduces itself as the Genial Gems.
