Robyn Brown, known for her polygamous marriage with Kody Brown on Sister Wives, revealed she never desired a legal marriage with Kody. Despite her love for their spiritual union, the legal aspect wasn’t part of her dream of a united, polygamous family.
During the December 29 episode, Robyn, along with Kody’s ex-wives Meri, Janelle, and Christine, reflected on the pivotal decision Meri made to divorce Kody so he could marry Robyn legally. This move allowed Kody to adopt Robyn’s children from her previous marriage, but it left emotional ripples.
Kody shared his view that the legal divorce had no significant impact on his relationship with Meri. However, he acknowledged it coincided with a difficult time for her, including the infamous catfishing incident, where Meri was deceived by an admirer pretending to be a man.
Meri admitted that divorcing Kody felt necessary at the time. Afterward, she observed a brief improvement in their relationship before it began to deteriorate again. She noted that the catfishing incident occurred months after the divorce, further complicating her emotional state.
Janelle expressed surprise when Meri decided to go through with the divorce. She suspected it wasn’t Meri’s idea initially, citing a growing favoritism toward Robyn from Kody as a potential influence. Janelle believed the legal marriage was significant to Meri, making her decision surprising.
Christine recalled Robyn discussing other families where first wives divorced their husbands so they could legally marry a second wife. Christine believed Robyn was subtly planting the idea, though Meri likely thought it was her own. Robyn, however, firmly denied these claims.
Robyn explained she never suggested such an idea to Meri and had never even heard of a similar situation. She claimed Meri independently offered the divorce so Kody could adopt Robyn’s children.
Robyn asserted she was content with her spiritual marriage and never sought a legal union with Kody. Having faced trauma from her first marriage’s legal divorce, she preferred to avoid legal ties.
Robyn joined the family in 2010 as Kody’s fourth wife. In 2014, Meri divorced Kody, enabling him to legally marry Robyn. The couple separated in 2023, marking the end of their legal and spiritual union. Janelle and Christine had also ended their relationship with Kody around the same time.
This episode highlighted the complexities within the Brown family and the emotional toll of their unconventional dynamics.
