Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule The World, the anime based on a light novel of the same name, has managed to gain quite a bit of traction due to its vibrant cast and a somewhat unique take on the magic system, typical of the animes in the fantasy genre.
Since its release, it has managed to gain quite a substantial following that’s eager to learn more about the anime. Episodes 9 and 8 were exceptional episodes exploring the family backgrounds and motivations of many characters, along with their reasons for wanting to win the tournament.
Both of these episodes even treated the viewers with nicely animated fighting sequences along with some pretty interesting magic. Episodes 8 and 9 might be the best episodes of this anime till now, thus setting expectations for episode 10 quite high.
The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule The World Episode 10 Story Breakdown:
Episode 10, released on 10th March 2023, starts off right from the end of episode 9. The episode opens with a scene of Rebecca’s father signing some sort of shady contract with an individual, the same individual that was shown walking away with Rebecca’s father towards the end of episode 9. It is then revealed that Rebecca was suddenly engaged to an individual named Evan Bernstein.
The sudden engagement of someone from the top 3 families sparks suspicions among Rebecca’s sister along with her friends. Ray goes on to investigate Evan after listening to the grievances of Rebecca’s close friend. Ray requests Carla, his master’s maid, to investigate Evan Bernstein due to the suspicious nature of the engagement.
Rebecca is then shown washing blood off her eyes while feeling distraught and a bit dazed. It is then revealed that her eyes have started acting weird, and they keep showing her visions of Ray on some battlefield.
Bugged by the ominous nature of the engagement, Rebecca’s sister confronts her to ask about her feelings, but she is soon rebuked by Rebecca, saying that she expected this due to being the eldest daughter of one of the top 3 families.
Later we are shown members of the organization called Eugenics slaughtering assassins sent by an opposing faction from their own organization, indicating some sort of power struggle. The Eugenics members then discuss their urgent plan of acquiring a vessel in order to achieve some higher level. It is then revealed that this vessel is actually Rebecca.
Towards the end of the episode, it is revealed that Rebecca possesses something called the “Sorcery Eyes,” and Evan Bernstein is revealed to be the “Sorcery Eye Collector,” who might also be a part of Eugenics. There is a subplot going on in the episode about a cultural festival and maid cafes, but that is hardly the most interesting part of the episode.
The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule The World Episode 10: Review
If the previous episodes focus on introducing different aspects of the world, then episode 10 is the episode where the main arc of the anime starts. Episode 10 focuses on the mysterious organization, Eugenics mentioned in the previous episodes and tries to flesh it out.
The episode shows the interactions and feelings of the previously established characters and their own conflicting circumstances. Episode 10 is the episode where the main plot of the 12-episode series will start and will lead to a final showdown between the protagonist and some equally powerful enemy.
There are almost no fight scenes in this episode, surely a letdown compared to episode 9, which was full of amazing fights and creative spells like Amelia’s causality-altering butterfly effect and her eventual triumph against her long-time rival Ariane Olgren.
While also introducing a potential rival, Lucas. Episode 9 also managed to establish the rivalry by displaying Lucas’s power. Episode 10 does fall short when compared to that, but episode 10 delivers more substance and establishes a starting point for the last showdown that will end season 1 of The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule The World.
The subplot also delivers some cute interactions between the characters, and they’re showing up in maid uniforms for their cultural festival. The animation in this episode isn’t something to write a note on, there are almost no scenes where the animation shines, but we do hope that this changes in the upcoming seasons.
Honest Opinion:
The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall rule the world is a decent anime with almost nothing unique to its name. The characters have somewhat of a unique design but actually lack a concrete personality to make them memorable. The plot has no clear direction to it.
Every girl in the anime seems to fall in love with the protagonist for seemingly no reason. The animation is below decent in many places. The art style is identical to almost every other generic fantasy anime. Fan service is there, but it is poorly executed.
There is almost no progression of the plot in episode 10, there is a side plot about a cultural festival celebration in their magic academy, which is contrasted by the main plot of Eugenics trying to get their hands on Rebecca’s eyes, but that’s it.
That is almost the entire plot of Episode 10 in its entirety. We hope that the next episode delivers more substance than episode 10 did. But till now, the episodes do seem lackluster, with the exception of episodes 9 and 8.
Our Verdict
The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule The World has lore dumps, suspense, and some fan service scenes. This episode lacks in quality when compared to episodes 8 and 9, but it still is a decent episode in its own right. The next few episodes, including this one, might focus on building the relationship between Ray and Rebecca.
