Having garnered endorsements from both Ridley Scott and James Cameron, the visionary directors behind the original Alien saga’s rise to iconic status, director Fede Alvarez has revealed a tantalizing appearance of his latest creation: Alien: Romulus.
Anticipation for the film’s August theatrical debut reaches a fever pitch, especially considering its initial plan for a Hulu-exclusive streaming release—a decision swiftly overturned by the studio in light of the project’s immense promise.
For Alvarez, known for his reimagining of the Evil Dead franchise in 2013 and the suspenseful thriller Don’t Breathe in 2016, Alien: Romulus marks a winning return to the series’ roots in sci-fi horror and thriller.
With scenes designed to unsettle even the most hardened viewers and jump scares that linger long after the credits have rolled, this eighth installment promises to evoke the spine-tingling suspense of the franchise’s heyday.
The film features a talented ensemble cast including Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu, portraying a group of youthful space scavengers confronting a Xenomorph aboard an abandoned spacecraft.
As expected, the body count rises as the crew finds themselves outmatched by the relentless Xenomorph.
In terms of paying homage to the franchise’s roots, Alvarez ensured that Alien: Romulus not only drew inspiration from the original films but also seamlessly integrated into the established narrative continuity.
While specific plot details remain under wraps, the film is positioned within the timeline between the first and second installments of the series.
“Alien: Romulus” hits theaters on August 16th. Watch the chilling preview below.
