Resident Evil Requiem leads Steam's horror game revenue rankings for 2026, generating an estimated $211.3 million

Resident Evil Requiem has generated an estimated $211.3 million in Steam revenue in 2026, accounting for 16.6% of the platform’s horror game revenue so far this year. According to market estimates published by Alinea Analytics on October 30, the game is also responsible for approximately 40.7% of the revenue generated by horror games released in 2026.

The figures highlight the commercial strength of Capcom’s long-running survival horror franchise on PC. While horror games have collectively generated an estimated $1.3 billion on Steam in 2026, Resident Evil Requiem alone accounts for a substantial portion of that total.

The data comes from Alinea Analytics’ report, “Horror games are KILLING it (literally and figuratively)”. These figures are third-party estimates rather than official sales or revenue disclosures from Capcom or Valve.

Horror Games Generate $1.3 Billion on Steam This Year

The broader horror genre has also experienced substantial growth. Alinea Analytics estimates that horror games have generated $1.3 billion on Steam in 2026 so far, representing a 17% increase over 2025. The figure is more than four times the estimated revenue recorded in 2019.

Horror accounts for approximately 7% of Steam’s estimated $18.1 billion in total revenue this year. New releases are contributing significantly to the growth, with games launched in 2026 generating $516.2 million, or 41% of the genre’s revenue. Titles released in 2025 and 2026 together account for 54%.

These estimates suggest that horror games are benefiting from both established franchises and newer releases. However, Resident Evil Requiem stands out as a major contributor to the genre’s 2026 earnings.

Resident Evil 4 is among the franchise’s other major Steam revenue contributors in 2026

Resident Evil Requiem is not the only entry from Capcom’s franchise generating substantial revenue on Steam. According to Alinea Analytics, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil Village have also earned significant amounts this year.

Combined, Resident Evil games account for an estimated $410 million, or 32% of Steam’s horror game revenue in 2026. The franchise’s established audience and catalogue of games continue to make it a major presence in the genre.

Other titles have also found success. The Outlast Trials generated an estimated $62.1 million on Steam this year, while cooperative horror game R.E.P.O. earned $44.7 million. Phasmophobia contributed another $28.9 million.

The performance of these games shows that horror revenue is not limited to large-budget releases. Cooperative experiences and established franchises both play important roles in the market.

With an estimated $211.3 million in Steam revenue this year, Resident Evil Requiem has become one of the defining commercial performers in horror gaming in 2026. Its 16.6% share of the genre’s revenue illustrates how strongly a major franchise can influence the market.

The figures remain estimates from Alinea Analytics and do not represent verified publisher-reported earnings. Nevertheless, they provide a snapshot of horror gaming’s growth and Resident Evil’s prominent position on Steam.
