Resident Evil Producer Roy Lee Is Working on an Unnamed Silent Hill Movie/TV Project as Fans Ask for Christophe Gans to Stay Away

The Silent Hill franchise could be heading back to the screen with a new adaptation reportedly in development from producer Roy Lee, who recently helped bring Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil movie to theaters.

While Konami has not officially revealed the project’s details, the news has already sparked discussion among horror fans about who should be involved and, perhaps more importantly, who should stay away.

Roy Lee Reportedly Has a Silent Hill Project in Development

According to his interview with  Wall Street Journal, Lee currently has numerous video game adaptations in development, including projects based on major franchises such as Battlefield, God of War, and Silent Hill.

However, the Silent Hill project remains almost completely unknown. There is currently no confirmation regarding whether it will be a theatrical movie, television series, or another type of production. Details about its story, characters, director, cast, and potential connection to the games have also not been revealed.

Lee’s involvement is nevertheless notable because of his recent work on Resident Evil. He secured the rights to the franchise after Cregger expressed interest in making an adaptation, eventually helping bring the filmmaker’s vision to the screen.

That makes the producer’s connection to another major survival horror franchise particularly interesting at a time when video game adaptations are experiencing renewed success.

Silent Hill Fans Have One Request

The announcement has understandably led fans to speculate about what a new Silent Hill adaptation could look like. The franchise has already received multiple film adaptations, with the 2006 Silent Hill movie directed by Christophe Gans remaining the most recognizable.

While the original film has developed a more appreciative following over the years, its reception was mixed, particularly regarding its story and deviations from the games.

The more recent Return to Silent Hill, also directed by Gans, has received a much colder response from many fans. The film adapts Silent Hill 2, arguably the most beloved entry in the franchise, and therefore carries particularly high expectations.

That history explains one of the strongest reactions from fans to the newly reported project.

The reaction reflects a larger concern surrounding Silent Hill adaptations. Fans want future projects to preserve the psychological horror, unsettling atmosphere, complicated characters, and ambiguity that made the games distinctive rather than simply borrowing recognizable imagery.

For now, Lee’s unnamed project remains far too early to judge. Still, with the success of recent video game adaptations and Lee’s involvement in Resident Evil, another attempt to bring Silent Hill to the screen could attract significant attention once more details emerge.
