Resident Evil 2 has officially surpassed 20 million players worldwide, according to Capcom, marking another impressive milestone for the 2019 remake. The achievement comes shortly after Capcom reported that the game had sold 19.7 million copies as of June 30, 2026, although the newly announced player figure is not directly comparable to sales.

The milestone places Resident Evil 2 as Capcom’s second most-played title, behind Monster Hunter: World. The player count may also include people accessing the game through services such as Game Pass, making it difficult to determine how many of those 20 million players represent individual purchases.

Capcom’s remake has maintained strong interest more than seven years after its original release, helped by the continued popularity of the Resident Evil franchise and the success of later entries such as Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 7: biohazard, and Resident Evil Village.

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 version of Resident Evil 2, alongside the Switch 2 releases of Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4, could provide another boost to the game’s long-term performance.

Capcom is also continuing its remake strategy with Resident Evil Code: Veronica, scheduled for release in 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. The upcoming remake reportedly surpassed two million wishlists in August, suggesting continued demand for revisiting classic entries in the survival horror series.
