The Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair recently revealed the first full trailer for “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid,” the second installment of the sequel anime project based on the “Seishun Buta Yarō” (Rascal Does Not Dream) light novel series.
The trailer offers a glimpse into the conclusion of the story’s High School arc, buzzing anticipation among fans. The second batch of advance MoviTicke Cards, featuring exclusive mini shikishi-style illustration boards by Masui and Tamura, will be available on September 30.
The sequel anime project is an adaptation of the eighth and ninth novels in the series: “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out” and “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid.” Japanese audiences can look forward to the film’s release on December 1.
Through a lens that balances the ordinary with the supernatural, the Rascal Does Not Dream series explores the ups and downs of human emotions, relationships, and the struggles of growing up. With a touch of humor and emotional depth, the series invites its audience to question the intricacies of youth and the mysteries of the heart.

Rascal Does Not Dream is a light novel series written by Hajime Kamoshida and beautifully illustrated by Kēji Mizoguchi. Published by ASCII Media Works, this series has seen thirteen volumes released since April 2014 under the Dengeki Bunko imprint.
A manga adaptation, with art by Tsugumi Nanamiya, has been serialized in ASCII Media Works’ seinen manga magazine, Dengeki G’s Comic, since December 2015.
The anime adaptation, titled “Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai,” covered the first five volumes and aired from October to December 2018.
Two anime films, “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl,” adapting volumes six and seven, premiered in June 2019, and “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out,” adapting volume eight, premiered in June 2023.
The Previous Rascal Does Not Dream Films
The previous Rascal Does Not Dream anime films performed very well at the Japanese Box Office. Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out, the latest film installment in the Rascal Does Not Dream series, made quite an impact in Japan upon its release on June 23.
It swiftly sold 118,108 tickets in its initial three days, raking in an impressive 175,648,924 Yen (approximately US$1.28 million) and securing the #4 spot in its opening weekend.
This success continues the legacy of the franchise, which began with Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai in October 2018, based on a light novel series, and further extended with the release of Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl in June 2019, adapting the sixth and seventh volumes of the light novel.
The Plot of Rascal Does Not Dream
High school student Sakuta Azusagawa’s life turns unexpectedly when he encounters teenage actress Mai Sakurajima dressed as a bunny girl in a library, seemingly invisible to everyone else.
This strange phenomenon, termed “Adolescence Syndrome,” intrigues them. Sakuta, the only one who can see Mai, embarks on a quest to unravel this mystery. Along the way, he connects with other girls afflicted by “Adolescence Syndrome,” all while growing closer to Mai and navigating the complexities of their budding relationship.
