Ranker’s Return Chapter 109: Recap

Chapter 109 of Ranker’s Return starts with Kang Hyunwoo cursing Kromar for not informing him that all the giants inside the tower tend to stick together. There’s no way Kromar, a mage, wouldn’t have known about something this important.

This situation leads Kang to question how a mage could be so clueless that he simply “forgot” about them. However, with the giants rushing towards him, Kang didn’t have time to entertain his thoughts.

He pushed all those into the back of his mind and focused all his attention on the forthcoming battle. As soon as the fight started, Kang called the plushie bear, Teng-I asking it to help him out there. However, it, too, had its hands tied at that moment.

But Kang couldn’t believe what he saw; Teng wasn’t using any skills. It had a major flaw; he couldn’t use his skills properly when caught off guard. After all, had he used to expand or howl, the fight could have ended a lot quicker. Due to this, Kang decided to put Teng under Sparta training.

Finally, the fight ended, and Kang already got half the giants. He expected to finish the task by the next day; Kang was pretty excited as he would finally get his first S-ranked quest reward. And so they continued their journey, but there were no signs of the giants anywhere.

They were supposed to run into one every 10 mins or so, but that didn’t happen, leading Kang to think that the remaining 300 giants must have gathered in the boss room.

Suddenly Teng called out to him, pointing his paws toward a huge silhouette. It was the floor’s boss. The huge giant looked at them and asked Kang if he was the one who killed his people, causing Kang to draw out his sword.

However, the giant boss told him that he meant no harm but just wanted to thank them for ending his people’s misery in his stead. Seeing Kang visibly confused, he began explaining the events leading up to his being trapped. However, the events Floe narrated were completely different from Kromar’s version.

If what he was saying was true, then Kromar was the one he should kill, not Floe. Kang gave Floe Kromar’s version of the story, which infuriated Floe. He wanted to kill Kromar, but due to being trapped, he asked Kang to kill him in his stead. He also promised Kang scared items from the leaders.

Kang goes back to Kromar and lies that he killed Floe. Kromar gets delighted and tells Kang to wait for him as he brings him the sacred item he had promised. Kang knew that it was all a facade still decided to go along with him.

Despite knowing the truth, Kromar’s actions make it hard to believe it fully. However, suddenly, Kromar attacks him with magic confirming Floe’s story. Kang was surprised and commented how an NPC could be better at lying than people. And the chapter ends as Kang draws his blade to kill Kromar.
