Prince William, speaking on behalf of the royal family, expressed gratitude to the British public for their support towards his wife, Kate, and his father, King Charles, amidst recent health challenges. William resumed official duties, while his brother, Prince Harry, returned to the US after a brief visit.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you … for the kind messages of support for Catherine and for my father, especially in recent days. It means a great deal to us all,” William, 41, stated, addressing the public’s concern during his return to work.
Attending a gala dinner for London’s Air Ambulance Charity, William light-heartedly remarked on the medical focus of recent weeks, seeking a reprieve from it all. This marked his second public appearance following Kate’s surgery and Charles’ cancer diagnosis.
As Charles undergoes outpatient treatment and Kate’s recovery continues, the duty falls upon William and Queen Camilla to represent the monarchy publicly. Royal author Robert Hardman noted William’s increased responsibilities, akin to those he undertook towards the end of Queen Elizabeth’s reign.
Despite Harry’s visit to Britain and his brief meeting with Charles, tensions within the family persist due to his strained relationship with many of the Windsors. Harry’s departure back to California underscores the familial complexities amidst Charles’ health challenges.
Despite the diagnosis, Charles remains optimistic and intends to continue his private work as monarch. Buckingham Palace maintains that Charles looks forward to resuming public duties soon.
