Prime Video has announced three new cast members for Season 2 of Bloodaxe, its upcoming historical drama centered on the legendary Norse ruler Erik Bloodaxe and his wife, Gunnhild, Mother of Kings. Maddy Ambus, Steven Brand, and Lasse Steen have joined the cast in recurring roles, adding to the ensemble ahead of the series’ second season.
The announcement arrives before Bloodaxe has even premiered, with Season 1 still awaiting its debut on Prime Video. The historical drama is currently filming its second season in Ireland and is produced by MGM Television.
While Ambus and Brand will debut in Season 2, Steen’s character is set to appear earlier in the story, having been introduced during the first season. The casting additions further expand the series as it prepares to explore the violent political struggles surrounding the throne of Norway.
Bloodaxe Season 2 Adds Three New Cast Members
Maddy Ambus, known for The Return of Stanley Atwell and Utopia, has joined Bloodaxe in a recurring role. Steven Brand, whose credits include Saw X and The Scorpion King, is also part of the new Season 2 cast.
Lasse Steen, known for The Promised Land and What Lies Between Us, rounds out the additions. Unlike Ambus and Brand, Steen’s character will first appear in Season 1 before continuing into the second season.
The three actors join Xavier Molyneux as Erik Bloodaxe and Jessica Madsen as Gunnhild, Mother of Kings. The series is created, written, and executive produced by Michael and Horatio Hirst, who also serve as showrunners.
Bloodaxe tells the story of Erik Bloodaxe, one of the most famous Norse raiders in history, and his formidable wife Gunnhild. The first season will focus on their struggle for control of Norway as rival factions fight for power.
The story will feature shifting alliances, betrayals, and conflicts involving powerful Scandinavian kings. An influential English ruler will also become involved as the struggle expands beyond Norway, setting up a larger Norse saga.
The series is being executive produced by Michael and Horatio Hirst alongside Morgan O’Sullivan, Steve Stark, Arturo Interian, John Weber, and Sheila Hockin.
Bloodaxe will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. A release date has not yet been announced.
