Pokémon Scarlet and Violet players are getting another shot at one of the game’s toughest raid bosses, as Rillaboom with the Mightiest Mark returns to 7-star Tera Raid Battles for a limited time. The event brings back the fan-favorite Grass-type starter in a new Normal-Tera configuration, offering both a fresh challenge and valuable rewards for those who take it down.
According to the official announcement from The Pokémon Company, the event runs from June 4 at 5:00 p.m. PDT to June 11 at 4:59 p.m. PDT. During this window, players can encounter the powerful Rillaboom at black Tera Raid crystals scattered across the Paldea region.
Rillaboom Returns as a High-Difficulty Raid Boss
This version of Rillaboom is not just a standard encounter. It appears as a 7-star raid boss, which means it is designed to be one of the most difficult challenges currently available in the game. The Pokémon comes equipped with the Mightiest Mark, a special designation reserved for top-tier raid encounters.
The Normal Tera Type adds an extra layer of strategy, as it changes how players need to approach the fight. Trainers who previously faced Rillaboom in its original event will still need to adjust their tactics to account for this variation. The event encourages coordinated play, especially for those attempting the raid with friends or online teammates.
The Pokémon Company describes the encounter as a “formidable foe,” reinforcing the expectation that players will need well-prepared teams to succeed. As with other 7-star raids, preparation and teamwork are key to securing a victory.
To participate in the event, players must meet specific in-game requirements. Accessing 7-star Tera Raid Battles typically requires completing the main story and unlocking postgame content. However, those who have not reached that stage can still join raids hosted by other players who have.
Players also need to ensure their game is updated with the latest Poké Portal News. This can be done by steering through the Poké Portal menu and selecting the Mystery Gift option before checking for updates. Without this step, the event raids will not appear in the game world.
Once the requirements are met, players can locate black Tera Raid crystals, which will feature the event-specific Rillaboom encounter. These crystals are visually distinct, marked by a glowing pillar of light that signals a high-level raid battle.
Catch Limits and Event Rewards
One important detail is that this special Rillaboom can only be caught once per save file. Even if players defeat it multiple times, they will not be able to capture additional copies. This restriction makes the initial victory especially valuable.
However, the event remains rewarding even after the first capture. Players can continue to participate in the raid to earn valuable items, including Exp. Candy, stat-boosting materials, and sellable treasures. Normal Tera Shards are also available, allowing players to modify the Tera Type of their own Pokémon.
These rewards make the event worthwhile beyond just the main catch, giving players a reason to return to the raid throughout its limited run.
