Pokémon Pokopia has won the Grand Award at the Japan Game Awards 2026, giving Nintendo and The Pokémon Company one of the event’s biggest honors. The annual awards, organized by the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA), recognized games released in Japan between June 1, 2025, and May 31, 2026.
The award marks a major achievement for Pokémon Pokopia, which takes the franchise in a different direction with its slow-life sandbox gameplay rather than focusing on traditional battles. CESA praised the game for offering players freedom to build, farm, cook and spend time with Pokémon.
The Pokémon franchise itself also received the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award, recognizing its 30-year contribution to gaming and global game culture.
Other notable winners included Pragmata, which received the Breakthrough Award, while Word Game earned the Game Designers Award and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie received a Special Award.
