Nerissa seems an okay fit on both teams. She knows to throw quite well in the midst of battle, like Poison, dual-wielding, two different types of blades. She does not have a complete overlap with any skill set or role on the teams.
Plus, her poison skills are far more useful, especially since they can be shared with the other blade wielders. So, in the next chapter, we will probably see Velkist attacking Han since he didn’t pick him even though he won against Nerissa.

Han picked the right person for his party, but I see why he made that choice. Utility, well-known background on debuffs. That could be more useful than brute force. Plus, they may be able to tell Han how to cure debuffs. And Team Two needs a strong guy anyway.
Not only that, but Nerissa was also using the arena to her advantage, which shows adaptability to a changing environment (which is crucial in these dungeons). If Velkist’s strategy is just going to be to kill everything, they could fail a lot of missions that they’d otherwise need tactics to win (eg. the one where they needed to protect that one girl).
However, that does mean Velkist could be pretty good in solo missions or in quests that require sheer brute force. As such, while I’m expecting Nerissa to be on team 1 for now, I think eventually, Velkist will be the one to join in the longer run since that’s what he will likely be the most compelling story-wise. It’s up in the air how long that lasts though.
Nerissa has shown she has more variety in specialty and skill. She almost matches Velkist physically, but he is probably physically stronger and has his own style and technique that might overwhelm Nerissa in a physical sense.
However, Han isn’t someone who goes for strength or physical prowess. He probably thinks he could use Nerissa’s skills of poison, being more versatile with weapons, and her use of her head over Velkist, who seems like a violent battering ram.
Party 2 already has a Nerissa-like role as the leader. They could use more fighting power like Velkist, while Han’s party is led by a more fighting power person and could use another support like Nerissa. This could, of course, also just come down to Han not liking Velkist’s crappy personality.
