Pearl Abyss is moving forward with a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Crimson Desert, with the developer targeting a release during the first half of 2027. The update comes directly from the studio’s latest shareholder communications and marks the clearest indication yet that the ambitious open-world action game is being prepared for Nintendo’s newer hardware.
The developer says the Switch 2 version has already reached a playable baseline. However, Pearl Abyss is still evaluating performance and making technical adjustments before committing to a final launch date.
Pearl Abyss Is Prioritizing the Full Crimson Desert Experience
According to Pearl Abyss’ latest earnings communication, the company does not want its Switch 2 release to be a straightforward downgrade. Instead, the team is working to preserve Crimson Desert’s graphics, combat systems, and seamless open-world experience while adapting the game to Nintendo’s hardware.
Pearl Abyss stated that the Switch 2 version has
“reached a playable baseline”
and is currently undergoing technical reviews focused on performance optimization and meeting its quality standards.
The company added that it is
“working toward a release targeted for the first half of 2027,”
while noting that a definitive launch date has not yet been confirmed.
The developer had previously expressed interest in bringing Crimson Desert to Switch 2. That earlier investigation has now progressed into active technical evaluation, suggesting that the project has moved beyond preliminary research.
Crimson Desert launched on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S in March 2026. The game places players in the expansive continent of Pywel, following Greymane leader Kliff through large-scale battles, exploration, and a variety of action-focused encounters.
