Crimson Desert players can prepare for the upcoming Charting the Unknown DLC by collecting camp resources before launch, according to Pearl Abyss marketing and public relations director Will Powers. Speaking on Dropped Frames Episode 485, Powers confirmed that players can gather materials in advance and use them to begin building a ship once the expansion becomes available.
“If you want to prepare for the DLC, you can farm up a bunch of resources in advance to be able to start building it,”
Powers explained during the interview. The tip gives players who want to explore the Great Ocean of Pywel early a practical way to prepare before setting sail.
However, collecting resources in advance will not provide a fully upgraded vessel. Powers clarified that players can obtain a basic ship relatively early, while improving its performance and appearance will require additional work. Charting the Unknown is scheduled to launch on October 29, 2026, with the release falling on October 30 in several Asian regions.
Shipbuilding Will Be Available Early, but Upgrades Take Time
According to the official Crimson Desert DLC overview, players can unlock shipbuilding after establishing their Greymane Camp at Howling Hill and completing the related questline. They can then send their companions on a shipbuilding dispatch mission at a port or purchase a vessel from a Fleet Office manager.
Powers explained that players can start with a ship and upgrade its hull, mast, and sails later. This means preparing camp resources can shorten the wait before a first voyage, but players will still have reasons to continue gathering materials and improving their vessels.

Shipbuilding is part of a broader expansion focused on maritime exploration. Players will be able to sail across the Great Ocean of Pywel, engage in naval battles, and dive underwater to discover ruins, treasure chests, new creatures, and mounts, according to Pearl Abyss.
Powers also highlighted the ocean’s changing conditions, describing how storms produce large waves that make sailing feel different from similar experiences in other games. Stockpiling resources ahead of launch could help players get to these new activities sooner rather than beginning their preparation from scratch.
