Pearl Abyss has indicated that Crimson Desert could become a larger franchise rather than remaining a standalone game. Following the open-world action RPG’s strong commercial performance, the South Korean developer said it remains open to future sequel titles, while confirming that additional DLC and platform expansion are currently higher priorities.
The comments arrived after Crimson Desert surpassed six million copies sold and continued receiving updates aimed at improving the experience. Pearl Abyss has recently highlighted new content, quality-of-life improvements, and technical refinements as part of its ongoing post-launch support.
Pearl Abyss Is Already Looking Beyond Crimson Desert’s First Game
In its latest financial update, Pearl Abyss said it is considering several ways to expand the Crimson Desert IP, including add-on content, additional platforms, and potential sequel titles. However, the company made clear that these possibilities should not be interpreted as confirmation that Crimson Desert 2 is currently in development.
“Accordingly, while we remain open to various possibilities — including add-on content, platform expansion, and sequel titles — our immediate development priority is centered on Crimson Desert DLCs and our next pipelines,”
Pearl Abyss said.
That makes the upcoming DLC the most immediate piece of the game’s future. The first expansion is targeting a release later in 2026, with further details about its content, pricing, and release schedule expected during the third quarter.

Pearl Abyss has also confirmed that a Nintendo Switch 2 version is in development, with the port targeting the first half of 2027 if development remains on schedule.
A sequel is not the only long-term possibility being considered. Pearl Abyss has also discussed multiplayer for Crimson Desert, saying the concept has “significant potential,” although there is currently no confirmation that multiplayer functionality will be added.
For now, the developer appears focused on strengthening the existing game before committing to larger expansions of the franchise. With Crimson Desert already establishing a substantial player base and generating significant revenue, its future could ultimately extend well beyond the original single-player adventure.
