Pearl Abyss has revealed that official mod support for Crimson Desert is being actively considered as part of the studio’s long-term strategy for the action RPG.
During a recent shareholder briefing, CEO Heo Jin-young discussed the company’s growing interest in user-generated content, suggesting that mods could play a role in the game’s future, even though no official implementation has been confirmed.
The comments come as Pearl Abyss continues expanding Crimson Desert through post-launch updates while simultaneously preparing future projects such as DokeV and Plan 8. Although players should not expect mod support anytime soon, the latest remarks indicate the feature remains under active review.
Pearl Abyss says mod support remains under consideration
The topic surfaced during a shareholder Q&A, first shared by Inven Global, when management was asked whether Crimson Desert could eventually receive mod support similar to other successful open-world titles.
COO Lee Dong-won explained that the team is reviewing multiple approaches, including official mods distributed directly by Pearl Abyss and in-game tools that would allow players to easily enable or disable modifications. According to Lee, the company is broadly evaluating the mod community before deciding how best to support it.
CEO Heo Jin-young expanded on that answer, revealing that mod support has been discussed internally for much longer than many fans might expect.
“We have had an interest in mods since before the launch,”
Heo said. While stressing that nothing has been finalized, he added that the studio
“recognize[s] that there are many opportunities in the mod community.”
The CEO also linked those discussions to Pearl Abyss’ long-term vision for open-world games, explaining that they can grow into platforms “where communities and creators can be active.”

Creator ecosystem is part of Pearl Abyss’ long-term strategy
Beyond mods, Pearl Abyss outlined a broader vision centered on creator participation. During the presentation, the company said it is exploring ways to expand the BlackSpace Engine beyond internal game development and into a creative ecosystem where users can contribute their own content.
Heo explained that the goal is not to license the engine externally but to leverage its technology to strengthen Pearl Abyss’ own intellectual properties while creating new opportunities for creators and communities. The company believes this approach could eventually transform it into more than a traditional game developer, allowing player creativity to become part of its long-term ecosystem.
Crimson Desert support continues alongside future projects
The shareholder meeting also reaffirmed Pearl Abyss’ commitment to Crimson Desert after its successful launch. According to the company, the game has surpassed 6 million copies sold, with additional story updates, cinematic improvements, and paid DLC already in development to expand the experience over time.
Meanwhile, development of DokeV continues, with COO Lee confirming that the project has entered the play loop verification stage and remains on track for a second-half 2028 release target. The company also reiterated that it intends to build on the production pipeline established during Crimson Desert’s lengthy development, enabling future games to be produced more efficiently.
While official mod support remains far from confirmed, Pearl Abyss’ latest comments offer one of its clearest indications yet that community-created content could become an important part of Crimson Desert’s long-term future.
