The possibility of seeing Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner in the final Fast & Furious movie has once again become a major talking point, but Walker’s brother Cody has made his position clear. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Cody said modern technology could potentially recreate Brian, but he would not personally participate in such a return.
Cody acknowledged that the franchise has enough unused footage and visual effects expertise to make a digital appearance possible.
“There’s years of footage that was never used from these other ‘Fast’ films,”
he said, adding that the filmmakers are “the best in the business” and could potentially figure out how to accomplish it.
Cody Walker Wants Paul’s Daughter to Have the Final Say
Cody’s comments come as Vin Diesel continues to discuss bringing Brian back for Fast Forever, the planned final installment of the franchise. Diesel previously said that reuniting Dominic Toretto and Brian O’Conner was one of his conditions for making the finale, putting Paul Walker’s character back at the center of the franchise’s ending.
However, Cody does not intend to serve as a stand-in for his brother again. He explained that any decision involving Brian should ultimately be guided by Paul’s daughter, Meadow Walker.
“My stance is, it’s what Meadow wants to see done; it’s her father,”
Cody told Entertainment Weekly.
“I would not be interested in doing that again.”
Cody and his brother Caleb previously helped complete Furious 7 after Paul Walker died in a 2013 car accident while the movie was still in production. Their involvement, combined with visual effects, helped the filmmakers give Brian a farewell that allowed the character to leave the franchise alive rather than killing him off.
Cody specifically praised that decision, saying he loves how Brian exited the series.
“They didn’t kill him off, they didn’t do something cheesy like that,”
he said.
“It’s beautiful, [Brian] is off raising his kids.”
Fast Forever Could Still Bring Brian Back
The question remains unresolved because Diesel has continued to express his desire to reunite Dom and Brian in the franchise finale. Fast Forever is currently scheduled for March 17, 2028.
For now, there is no confirmation that Paul Walker will appear through AI, archival footage, visual effects or another performer. Cody’s latest comments instead make clear that he does not want to reprise his previous role in recreating his brother, leaving the final decision about Brian’s future with the filmmakers and Walker’s family.
