Renowned musician Paul Simon is set to perform at a state dinner hosted for Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, along with President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden.
Simon, known for iconic hits like “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” and “You Can Call Me Al,” will provide a musical tribute during the event.
The selection of Paul Simon for the performance holds special significance, as he is regarded as one of Dr. Jill Biden’s favorite artists.
This choice reflects her appreciation for Simon’s contributions to the American music scene. President Biden presented Prime Minister Kishida with a personalized gift, including a custom-framed lithograph and a two-volume LP set signed by renowned musician Billy Joel.
This gesture highlights the cultural exchange between the two nations.
The state dinner’s menu promises a gastronomic delight, featuring delectable dishes such as house-cured salmon with avocados and red grapefruit, dry-aged rib eye steak, and a tantalizing salted caramel pistachio cake with matcha ganache and cherry ice cream.
White House social secretary Carlos Elizondo confirmed that Paul Simon will entertain the guests with renditions of his classic songs following the dinner.
Prime Minister Kishida’s visit includes various engagements, such as a trip to North Carolina. There, he will have the opportunity to experience traditional southern hospitality, including a “whole hog” barbecue with Governor Roy Cooper, accompanied by the soulful tunes of bluegrass music.
The visit will also include a tour of a Toyota plant, highlighting economic ties between Japan and the United States.
