In the previous chapter of Overgeared, the first Prince of Etnal named Ren, comes to visit the Fortress city of Patrian with 5000 soldiers. Prince Ren tells Earl Ashur that the King is on his deathbed with little time left, and the fate of Etnal will be left in chaos after his death. Prince Ren also says that he believes Duke Greed will threaten the stability even further. Prince Ren tells Earl Ashur that he wants to apprehend and defeat Duke Greed.

Ren asks Earl Ashur to help him as the great mage of Patrian City. Earl Ashur believes that Ren took offense to what Greed said at the Royal banquet and is hesitant.
