One Piece Beats Jujutsu Kaisen to Become Japan’s Best-Selling Manga of 2025 With Over 4.2 Million Copies Sold

One Piece has reclaimed its position as Japan’s best-selling manga series of the year, beating Jujutsu Kaisen and other major titles in the latest annual sales rankings. According to figures attributed to Japanese sales tracker Oricon, Eiichiro Oda’s long-running series sold 4,211,363 copies during the 2025 tracking period, finishing more than 400,000 copies ahead of the runner-up.

The result marks a significant return to the top for One Piece, which had not led Japan’s annual manga sales rankings for five consecutive years. Although the series remains one of the biggest names in the industry, its position was challenged by newer hits, including Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Blue Lock.

The latest figures suggest that One Piece remains a major force in Japan’s manga market. However, its return to No. 1 also reflects changes in the competitive terrain as several popular series have concluded.

One Piece Tops Japan’s 2025 Manga Sales Rankings

Oricon is one of Japan’s best-known sources for tracking manga sales. Its annual rankings offer a snapshot of which series attracted the most purchases during a defined period, covering both ongoing releases and sales of previously published volumes.

The 2025 rankings, reportedly released on October 22, 2026, cover sales recorded between November 18, 2024, and November 14, 2025. The chart includes the country’s 200 best-selling manga series, providing a broader picture of the titles attracting readers.

One Piece secured first place with 4.21 million copies sold. Its lead of more than 400,000 copies over Jujutsu Kaisen highlights the series’ continued commercial strength, even after more than two decades of serialization.

The achievement is particularly notable because One Piece lost the annual sales crown after Demon Slayer surged in popularity in 2019. Jujutsu Kaisen and Blue Lock subsequently became major competitors, preventing Oda’s manga from reclaiming the top position for several years.

Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates remain at the center of One Piece, one of the world’s most successful manga and anime franchises

The ongoing Elbaf arc may have helped renew reader interest in One Piece, although annual sales rankings alone cannot establish how much a particular story arc contributed to its performance.

Jujutsu Kaisen Finishes Second as One Piece Takes the Lead

Jujutsu Kaisen finished second with 3,921,875 copies sold, leaving it nearly 290,000 copies behind One Piece. Dandadan claimed third place with 3,517,870 copies, followed by Blue Lock with 3,012,745 copies. Kingdom rounded out the top five with 2,497,085 copies sold.

The 2025 annual ranking also highlighted the success of individual One Piece volumes. Volume 111 sold approximately 1.37 million copies during the tracking period, making it the best-selling individual manga volume of the year. Volumes 112 and 113 also performed strongly, demonstrating the series’ ability to attract readers through multiple releases.

The rankings reflect physical manga sales in Japan rather than total global sales or digital readership. They also include purchases of previously released volumes, meaning a series can perform well through both new releases and continued interest in its back catalogue. This distinction is important when comparing established franchises with newer manga gaining attention through anime adaptations.

Can One Piece Remain Japan’s Best-Selling Manga?

One Piece’s return to the top comes as several major competitors have concluded their main stories. Jujutsu Kaisen ended its original manga serialization in September 2024, while My Hero Academia also reached its conclusion that year. Although completed series can continue selling strongly, they generally have fewer new chapters and volumes to support ongoing interest.

One Piece, meanwhile, continues its journey through the final stages of its expansive story. The Elbaf arc has brought the Straw Hat Pirates into a long-anticipated setting, giving longtime readers fresh developments to follow. The anime adaptation has also entered the Elbaph arc.

However, One Piece’s future position in the annual rankings is not guaranteed. Returning franchises, successful anime adaptations, and new breakout manga could challenge its lead in subsequent years. Kagurabachi, for example, could attract a wider audience as its multimedia presence expands, while future projects connected to established franchises could also influence sales.

For now, the 2025 figures establish One Piece as Japan’s best-selling manga series for the year, with more than 4.2 million copies sold. Its victory over Jujutsu Kaisen demonstrates that the series remains commercially powerful nearly three decades after its debut.
