Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin’s offseason takes a delightful turn as she and fellow skier Aleksander Aamodt Kilde of Norway announce their engagement.
The couple shared their joy with a joint post on Instagram, featuring Shiffrin’s radiant smile as she displays her new ring and Kilde’s happiness as he holds her hand.
The caption, adorned with engagement ring and heart emojis, garnered congratulations from Shiffrin’s U.S. teammates and other Olympic champions. This exciting news follows a challenging period for both athletes.
Shiffrin endured a six-week recovery after sustaining knee and ankle injuries in a late January crash in Cortina, Italy. Similarly, Kilde faced his own setback, requiring emergency surgery following a serious crash that resulted in ligament tears, a dislocated shoulder, and a calf injury.
While Shiffrin made a successful return to racing, clinching victory in her first race back, Kilde is still undergoing rehabilitation. Shiffrin and Kilde’s love story began at a ski camp, blossoming into a romantic relationship several years later.
Throughout their three-plus years together, they have been each other’s biggest supporters, celebrating milestones and achievements.
Last year, when Shiffrin became the all-time leader in World Cup victories, Kilde publicly praised her as “the greatest skier (and human) of all time,” showcasing their mutual admiration and support.
