Inde Navarrette is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s rising stars after her breakout performance in the horror film Obsession. Now, the actress has revealed that she has already met with Marvel Studios, sparking excitement about a possible future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While nothing has been officially announced, Navarrette already has one character in mind. She said she would love the opportunity to play Mystique, making her one of the latest actors to express interest in joining Marvel’s upcoming X-Men reboot.
From Horror Breakout to Marvel Meetings
Inde Navarrette’s career has taken off following her breakout role in Obsession. The horror film became one of the biggest success stories of the year after Focus Features acquired it at the Toronto International Film Festival, and it went on to earn more than $460 million worldwide.
The film’s success has led to a busy schedule of meetings with major studios and filmmakers. Speaking on Variety’s Up Next podcast, Navarrette said she has been meeting with many people in the industry since Obsession was released and has enjoyed learning from those conversations.
She explained that these meetings have given her the chance to build new relationships and explore future opportunities. While not every meeting results in a project, she said they have helped her connect with filmmakers she has long admired.
The Marvel Meeting That Got Fans Talking
One of those meetings was with director Jake Schreier, who directed Thunderbolts and is attached to Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot.
The actress revealed that she grew up watching Fox’s original X-Men movies. She said Schreier’s approach reminded her of what she loved about Marvel films, making the meeting especially memorable.
At the same time, Navarrette made it clear that fans should not read too much into the meeting. She said many studio meetings are opportunities to get to know directors and producers, and they do not always lead to a role.
Why Mystique Is Her Dream Role
When asked which X-Men character she would most like to play, Navarrette immediately named Mystique. She said the iconic mutant has always been one of her favorite characters in the franchise.
Beyond the character’s shape-shifting abilities, Navarrette has also expressed interest in the detailed makeup and prosthetic work that comes with playing Mystique. She believes the role would be a unique creative challenge.
Mystique has been portrayed by Rebecca Romijn in the original X-Men trilogy and Jennifer Lawrence in the prequel films. Romijn is also set to return as the character in Avengers: Doomsday.
