Directed by Curry Barker, Obsession has earned $262.8 million at the domestic box office and another $212 million from 76 international markets, bringing its worldwide total to $474.8 million.
That total pushes the film ahead of It: Chapter Two, which finished its theatrical run with $473.1 million worldwide. The latest achievement places Obsession among the most successful horror films ever released globally.
The film also posted a solid $7.5 million overseas during its 12th weekend, dropping just over 21% despite facing heavy competition from two of the year’s biggest theatrical releases.
Industry tracking suggests Obsession still has a realistic chance of crossing the $500 million milestone if it continues its steady hold in international markets over the coming weeks.
The film follows Baron “Bear” Bailey, whose attempt to win over co-worker Nikki Freeman using a supernatural charm quickly spirals into horror. Instead of creating romance, the spell transforms Nikki’s feelings into a violent obsession, turning Bear’s wish into a terrifying nightmare.
