ABC’s one-of-a-kind sitcom, Not Dead Yet, is all set to air an all-new episode this week. Created by Casey Johnson and David Windsor, the show revolves around Nell Serrano, a woman in her early 30s who returns to work as a newspaper reporter at her old job.
Despite things always being negative for her, Nell manages to find something interesting in her life. She left her journalist job years ago for her boyfriend, but when he dumps her, she has no choice but to return to her old hometown and start working at the same company.
Nell returns to see that the boss kept his daughter in charge, with whom Nell had a terrible history. Through her friend Sam’s help, she’s able to get the job, but things aren’t as easy later on.
Serrano is assigned to work on writing obituaries in a closet-like office. Seeing no other option in sight, she agrees to the job. As soon as she receives the first obituary, she’s visited by the ghost of the person she was assigned.
At first, she’s terrified and confused, but as the show progresses, we see Nell take up the job seriously and work to provide thoughtful obituaries with the help of the ghosts. They also helped her fix her broken lifestyle ever since she returned to the city.
Cast members of Not Dead Yet include Gina Rodriguez as Nell Serrano, Sam’s role is played by Hannah Simone, and the boss, Lexi, is portrayed by Lauren Ash. Other cast members of the series include Rick Glassman (Edward), Joshua Banday (Dennis), and Angela E. Gibbs (Cricket). Not Dead Yet has been airing since February 8th, 2023.
Not Dead Yet Episode 5: Recap
In the previous episodes, we see Nell finding out that her ex, Philip, has moved on and found himself a beautiful pastry chef as a girlfriend. This creates a sense of insecurity in her, and her friends start noticing it.
They plan to set up dates for her and help her find someone suitable. Meanwhile, Nell is assigned to work on an obituary of a great mathematician. He follows her around and spends all his time trying to solve an equation.
The first guy is set up by Dennis, based on his Springsteen and Billy Joel classification of humans. At first, the date goes well with the guy, but he starts to talk about math and science, being able to predict how the relationship will go.
They talk about the five love languages, and Nell says her love language is gifting. Since the guy’s ex’s love language was also gifting, he takes that as a red flag. Edward finds Nell and the guy returning home, and they realize both of them like the same Space opera game that Edward was playing earlier that day.
Lexi helps Nell as well, but the guy she selected for her is rich but way too old. Nell agrees to go on a date with the guy Sam had chosen for her. The new guy seems good at first, but as the conversation proceeds, they realize that he is much invested in his kids and is not Nell’s type.
While at the bar, Nell has a breakdown in front of a guy who is also fresh out of a relationship. They get along well together and decide to date, but when Nell takes a picture, she sees that the guy is a ghost.
