Normani fans, your patience is rewarded! The Fifth Harmony alum has announced her long-awaited debut album, “DOPAMINE,” is set to release on June 14th, alongside the drop of her new single “1:59.”
On April 26, via Instagram, Normani shared her excitement, writing, “Yeeee 1:59 out now and DOPAMINE coming JUNE 14th.
The track “1:59,” featuring Atlanta rapper Gunna, marks the first single from the album and delves into reconnecting with a past love. Its lyrics tease, “When I get you alone / Boy, what you gon’ do with it? (Shh) / Don’t talk too much, just do this s–t / Boy,”.
Describing the album to Who What Wear in February, Normani expressed that “DOPAMINE” represents a season of freedom and a celebration of her journey.
“The album feels like liberation,” she said, adding, “During this process, I heard God say to me, ‘Trust me. I know you’re afraid, but trust me anyway. Dare to trust me anyway. Now is the time.’”
Post-Fifth Harmony’s 2017 hiatus, Normani explored her artistic identity with hit singles such as “Motivation,” “Wild Side” with Cardi B, and “Waves,” but her debut album had yet to materialize. Reflecting on her evolution, Normani stated that stepping away from the group allowed her to discover unexplored aspects of herself.
She shared, “For so long I feel like people got an idea of who I was in the entity of the group… So for me to kind of be detached from that has been an eye-opener.” Normani also revealed that her new work would showcase a sultrier side, incorporating influences she grew up listening to.
