Premise Of Nope
The film centers around the Haywood family living in Agua Dulce, California, who professionally trains and handles horses. Their trained horses are used in film and television productions. Otis Haywood is killed by a metallic object that fell from the sky. After six months children of Otis Haywood are fired from the sets of a TV commercial after their horse reacted violently to its reflection.
To keep themselves afloat, the pair of brother and sister sell some of their horses to Jupe, who owns and runs Jupiter’s Claim, a theme park. The Haywoods start noticing their electricity fluctuating and horses vanishing. They soon discover a UFO that has been taking their horses and decide to film it as evidence of the existence of the UFO and sell them for monetary value.
To document the evidence, the duo hires Angel Torres, an employee of Fry’s Electronics. The pair attempts to get Antler Holst, a famed cinematographer, to film their documentary. He rejects their offers stating that greed for money is a dream one would never wake up from. It gets revealed that Jupe is the antagonist and the person who has been feeding Haywood’s horses to the U.F.O.
Jupe decides to have a live show at his park, where he uses Jupe as bait to lure the UFO. The UFO devours Jupe with the audience and leaves Lucky alive. The Haywoods soon realize the UFO attacks the one who looks directly at it. The film ends with the death of the gory creature that was in the U.F.O. and the siblings making it out safely with their horse Lucky.
Nope- Filming Locations
The principal photography of the film began on June 2021 and wrapped up on November 2022. The film’s majority of scenes were shot in the Agua Dulce Desert and Santa Clarita.
1. Firestone Ranch
Firestone Ranch, located in Agua Dulce in California, is the location crew used to film the scenes involving Haywood’s Ranch. The ranch is a beautiful site and has been used as a filming location for several movies.
The scenes involving the disappearance of the horses were shot here. The scenes with the training and handling of the horse are shot in the same place. Tourists can visit the location as it is open to them.
2. Fry’s Electronics
Fry’s Electronics, located at 2311 N Hollywood Way in California, is the location crew selected to film the scenes with Angel, hired by the Haywood siblings.
The store is no longer in function and closed its door nationally in 2021 for the site redevelopment. The area is no longer open for tourists to visit. The location was selected by Peele. It has a sci-fi-themed facade with UFO in it.
3. Polsa Rosa Ranch
Polsa Rosa Ranch, located in California, is the location crew selected to film the scenes with the entrance and exterior of Jupiter’s Claim, the theme park. The area has a scenic beauty to it and is open for tourists to visit.
4. Agua Dulce Movie Ranch
Agua Dulce Movie Ranch, located in California, is the location crew selected to film the scenes with Jupiter’s Claim, the theme park in it. The live show that Jupe conducts in his theme park is shot here. The area has a beautiful and scenic landscape. The theme park was built from the set of a 90s Western film.
