A new report suggests Nintendo may already be evaluating an OLED revision of the Nintendo Switch 2, despite the console’s relatively recent launch. While nothing has been officially confirmed, industry sources claim the company is studying the possibility of introducing an upgraded display in the coming years.

The report originates from ZDNET Korea. As with any unannounced hardware, the information should be treated as speculation until Nintendo makes an official announcement.

Report claims Nintendo is evaluating an OLED Switch 2 revision

According to ZDNET Korea, multiple industry insiders said Nintendo is considering replacing the current LCD panel with a rigid OLED display for a future Switch 2 revision. One source claimed the company is discussing a display upgrade from the 1280×720 resolution used in the original Switch OLED model to a Full HD (1920×1080) panel.

The source reportedly stated,

“Nintendo is considering releasing a Switch 2 OLED with the resolution upgraded… If the release of the Switch 2 OLED model is decided, there is a possibility that product development will begin at the end of this year.”

However, the report also emphasizes that Nintendo has not finalized the project. Higher OLED production costs remain one of the biggest factors, especially as the company continues to focus on reducing manufacturing expenses.

Another insider told ZDNET Korea that Samsung Display is expected to pursue supplying OLED panels if Nintendo proceeds with the revision, although pricing will ultimately influence the final decision.

The report suggests that if development receives approval, work could begin later this year, while mass production may not start until late 2027 or early 2028. That would indicate any potential OLED model is still several years away.

For now, Nintendo has made no public comment regarding a Switch 2 OLED model. Given the lack of official confirmation, fans should view the report as an early rumor rather than evidence of an upcoming hardware announcement.
