The NFL has lifted the suspensions of five players who were barred for the entire 2023 season due to violations of the league’s gambling policy. Among them are Shaka Toney of the Washington Commanders and free agents Rashod Berry, Quintez Cephus, C.J. Moore, and Demetrius Taylor.
With this reinstatement, Toney is now eligible to participate in all Commanders’ offseason activities, while the other four players are free to sign with any team, according to Jones.
Cephus, Toney, and Moore received their suspensions in April of the previous year, leading to their sudden release from the Lions. Berry and Taylor, along with former Colts teammate Isaiah Rodgers, were suspended in June for betting on NFL games in 2022, prompting their release from the Indianapolis team. Rodgers, however, remains suspended and has not yet been reinstated.
Additionally, two Lions players, Jameson Williams and Stanley Berryhill III, were handed six-game suspensions for similar gambling infractions.
The NFL’s gambling policy strictly prohibits any league personnel from engaging in gambling activities within team or league facilities or venues.
