With just one week to go before The Rings of Power Season 2 premieres, the series is getting a lot of attention with a new featurette. The official Rings of Power X account has shared a fresh look at the series, focusing on Charlie Vickers as Sauron, who will be the main villain in Season 2.
In the featurette, Vickers and showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay talk about Sauron’s powers and goals. They also mention that more than one actor will play Sauron this season. The second season will begin with a flashback set a thousand years before the show’s main events, showing Sauron’s fall and then his rise again at the end of Season 1.
Vickers discusses Sauron’s many powers, but points out that his main ability is to change forms. The showrunners explain why they chose to use another actor for Sauron in the flashback. They think it’s a great way to explore his character and understand his motivations better.
Jack Lowden will play the other version of Sauron in the opening scene of Season 2. The featurette even gives a sneak peek at this scene, where Sauron stands over the Orcs. Vickers also talks about Sauron’s Annatar form, which he uses to get close to Celebrimbor and persuade him to create the Rings for his own evil purposes.
Sauron’s identity was a big mystery in The Rings of Power Season 1. Much of the discussion and speculation around the show focused on “Who is Sauron?” Many fans even started to doubt whether he would appear, until the reveal near the end of the season that Halbrand, Galadriel’s (Morfydd Clark) companion, was actually Sauron all along.
Other cast members have hinted that Season 2 will focus heavily on the villains. Fans of Lord of the Rings are eager to see how much trouble Sauron will cause now that he is fully in the spotlight.
