So with that, let’s recap do Never Have I Ever Season 4 Ending Explained and break down all that there was to take away from this season.
Here is Never Have I Ever Season 4 Ending Explained:
Never Have I Ever Season 4 Ending
As we embarked on to the ending of the final season of Never Have I Ever Season 4, we saw that even though Davi had spent the entirety of this season not knowing who she truly wanted to be with in terms of the romantic sense and worrying over the fact that she may not get into the College of her dreams due to being accepted by none of the Ivy Leagues and being put on a waitlist at Princeton.
After completing the essay that she had to carry out, she got into the College of her dreams, one that held such importance to her due to her father and herself sharing the dream together when she was younger. The essay that she wrote was the first time that we truly saw her reveal deep down where she wanted to go to college and the importance that her father had in her life, and the root cause for the reason that she’d essentially led her life the way that she did, to live the dream that he wanted her to have.
This was something that was also made apparent when she was packing her bags at the wedding when he appeared in front of her. She was fearful of going off to college and leaving her family behind. Hence why her father appeared in front of her to be the comfort that she needed at that moment; she was fearful of her mother being alone and having to say goodbye all over again.
Not Knowing What To Do
With Davi getting into college and completing her academic success, that then left one thing, and that was to find out who the true love was that she wanted to be with. Well, it finished the way that it opened, with Ben and Davi in a bed together.
Even though we saw Davi think that she wanted to be with Ethan at one point and share a brief romantic connection with Paxton again, she ultimately realized that Ben was the person that she truly wanted to be with, and he thought that too.
When Ben flew all the way across the country to be with her and confess his love for her, whilst also stating that they should give things a try whilst they were at college, which we did see them successfully do, allowing Davi’s art to resolve in the most perfect way possible for the character. She was at her dream College with her dream guy and knew that her family was safe, well, and OK at home.
Ultimately, at its core, this season was about the feeling of a lack of direction, not knowing what to do, and also realizing that it was OK to be afraid. These were traits that we saw being present amongst each and every one of the characters in the show, whether it be Paxton dropping out of college, Davi not getting into college, Elle feeling like a failure, Ben feeling uncomfortable around people that he thought that he should be able to relate to and Fab feeling like she betrayed her best friend.
You could even tie it into Davi’s mother with her, embarking on a new relationship with Andreas, marking the first time that she had been with somebody following the loss of her husband.
Let’s break the rest of the article down by the endings for the rest of the main characters:
Ben
Ben went on quite a turbulent journey this season. Whilst maybe not as tough as Never Have I Ever Season 3, this was more about him being in the middle of Davi and also Margot, two people that he was in a romantic sense.
It was almost written in the stars that Davi and Ben would end up together. They’ve had this weird chemistry and almost a ‘Will They, Won’t They’ type of mood for the entirety of the show. And with Ben leaving his summer job at a law firm to confess his love to Davi, it confirmed that they were truly meant to be with one another. He told her that he loved her, something which he hadn’t done before. To this, she responded with the exact same feelings
With the show closing off with them together in Davi’s dorm room at Princeton, it showed that they were managing to make the long-distance relationship work. Ohh and Ben also got into the Dream College that he wanted to, Columbia, despite slacking on his grades towards the end of the academic year.
Eleanor
El had a transformative journey in this season, and it was one of self-development, independence, and growth. She graduated high school early in the hopes of pursuing her acting career. But after auditioning at an institution and being rejected, she saw that she would need to make her own pathway into the industry with the hopes of having a successful career.
El’s relationship with her mother was something that was basically non-existent. But after bumping into her at an audition, she saw that her mother had spent the entirety of her life trying to get a career that she was most likely never going to have, and El didn’t want that in the least.
El didn’t want to be like her mother, hence why her mindset changed. She ended off the show being a director and starred in her own movie with Trent alongside her, allowing her to be with the person that she truly loved and do a job that she always dreamed of.
Fabiola
Fabiola took a little bit of a backseat in this season, and she wasn’t really that held up in any of the drama, other than the fact that she took the early spots at Princeton, which Davi felt that she was entitled to. Other than that, it was more focused on her wanting to diversify the robotics club that she was in and even ending up going to a different college to what Davi was at. She ended up going to Howard because it aligned with her beliefs more.
Paxton
Paxton’s story was really relatable for many people in this season. He was once so accepted and the popular guy at school, yet he moved to college and found himself being treated so differently from how he was when he was in high school. So basically, he tried to relive his past by dropping out and getting a job back at his school, but it was something that was needed for his character to change and learn what his passion was, Teaching.
Paxton wanted to change lives for the better and have a positive impact on people. So right at the end of Never Have I Ever Season 4, he ended up going back to the college that he dropped out of and changed his studies in order to get a teaching qualification.
Plus, Paxton realized that he and Davi worked best as friends rather than being romantically engaged with one another. They were each other’s pasts, and they shaped each other into who they were in the present. So they both wanted to build upon that. He also got a new girlfriend, which was a teacher called Lindsay, and I must call out that the episode that was from Paxton’s perspective was a great inclusion too.
Never Have I Ever Season 4 Review
I thought Never Have I Ever Season 4 was a good way for it to be sent off. It was a whirlwind of different moods, emotions, and pace, but it complemented and suited the series quite well. I would say the lack of some characters in this season, like Anisa, was felt, and that was a shame because it wasn’t really handled as to why they weren’t in it that much.
I thought all of the characters played their roles really well, and the stories had a level of depth to them that allowed the emotion to come to the forefront. They were all relatable and associated in some kind of capacity.
The show came to a natural resolution, with it concluding with the group graduating from high school and finding their own pathways in life, which I thought was a really nice way for it to end. So I am really glad that the makers of the show took that approach rather than seeing how long they could continue it.
