Matthew Perry’s life and career will be explored in a new three-part Netflix documentary series arriving nearly three years after the beloved Friends star’s death. Titled The One About Matthew Perry, the documentary will examine the actor’s rise to fame, his work beyond Chandler Bing, and the personal struggles he openly discussed during his lifetime.
Netflix announced the series through Netflix Tudum, confirming that The One About Matthew Perry will premiere on October 27, 2026. The project is directed by Emmy winner Mary Robertson and is described as the first in-depth documentary focused on Perry.
The Documentary Will Show Matthew Perry Beyond Chandler Bing
The three-part series will feature previously unheard testimony from Perry’s sister, Mia Perry Bowick, as well as longtime friends and creative collaborators. It will also include unreleased photographs and videos from the Perry family’s private archive, offering a more personal look at the actor away from his public career.
Perry became internationally famous through Friends, playing Chandler Bing throughout the sitcom’s 236-episode run from 1994 to 2004. However, the documentary will also examine his struggles with addiction and his efforts to speak openly about them, giving greater context to an important part of his legacy.
Robertson explained her motivation for making the project, saying,
“Matthew Perry was one of the comedic geniuses of our time.”
She added that the series aims to allow people who knew him personally to reveal the person behind his public image.
Perry’s sister will be particularly important to the documentary, with Bowick providing personal memories alongside material from the family archive. Netflix says her testimony will help present Perry as a complete person rather than focusing only on Chandler Bing or his struggles with addiction.
Produced by Maxine Productions, a Sony Pictures Television company, the series has Mary Robertson, Lisa Kalikow, Eli Holzman, and Aaron Saidman serving as executive producers. The One About Matthew Perry premieres exclusively on Netflix on October 27, 2026, giving fans an opportunity to revisit the actor’s career while learning more about the person behind one of television’s most recognizable characters.
