Netflix‘s highly anticipated series “The 8 Show,” directed by Han Jae Rim and based on Bae Jin Soo’s acclaimed webtoons “Money Game” and its sequel “Pie Game,” has revealed a new preview.
The series revolves around eight individuals who are thrust into a high-stakes game, isolated from society, and forced to face extreme conditions.
The teaser introduces Jin Soo, portrayed by Ryu Jun Yeol, who finds himself in a small, dimly lit room equipped only with a uniform and a rule book.
According to the rules, contestants must surrender all personal belongings and can track the accumulating prize money on a scoreboard. Any purchases made by the participants result in deductions from their total prize money.
As the game kicks off precisely at midnight, Jin Soo is astounded to see the prize money increase by 30,000 won (around $22) every minute. Calculating the potential earnings, he realizes that he could accumulate 43 million won (approximately $31,764) within 24 hours, which significantly exceeds his friend’s annual salary.
Jin Soo’s initial excitement is quickly tempered when he attempts to buy basic items like a blanket and a hand warmer, only to discover that their prices are exorbitantly inflated to 1.1 million won (around $812), labeled as “special prices” within the game.
Recognizing the exploitative nature of the setup, Jin Soo decides to outsmart the system. He cleverly purchases 1 kilogram of old newspapers and several used cardboard boxes for a more modest sum of 120,000 won (approximately $89).
The preview ends with Jin Soo’s satisfied smirk, indicating his resourcefulness. However, the ominous atmosphere suggests that more daunting challenges await. “The 8 Show” is set to premiere on May 17, promising a gripping narrative filled with suspense and strategic maneuvers.
