Netflix is expanding its partnership with AMC to bring The Walking Dead franchise to more viewers around the world.
Under a new five-year licensing agreement, Netflix and AMC Global Media will both have streaming rights to the original zombie drama and its six spin-off series, creating a larger global home for the franchise.
The deal is valued at approximately $500 million, with availability depending on regional licensing timelines and existing streaming agreements.
Netflix and AMC Will Share Walking Dead Streaming Rights
The agreement does not involve AMC selling The Walking Dead franchise. Instead, AMC is licensing the rights to Netflix while maintaining ownership of the property and continuing to stream the shows on its own platforms.
AMC Global Media CEO Kristin Dolan described the partnership as a major opportunity to make the franchise more accessible worldwide.
“This deal creates a global destination for this universe — all shows, all episodes — making the franchise more accessible than ever to fans around the world.”
Dolan added that the co-exclusive agreement will also allow the original series to arrive on AMC+ for the first time, expanding the franchise’s availability across both platforms.

The deal will gradually roll out across different regions, including markets such as the United Kingdom, Italy, Australia, and New Zealand, with additional territories following based on existing streaming contracts.
First premiering in 2010, The Walking Dead became one of AMC’s most successful shows, running for 11 seasons and building a massive international fanbase. The series follows survivors guiding a world devastated by a zombie outbreak and eventually expanded into multiple spin-offs.
The franchise currently includes shows such as Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, The Walking Dead: Dead City, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, and The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.
Netflix vice president of licensing Lori Conkling highlighted the platform’s long relationship with the series.
“Audiences have discovered and loved ‘The Walking Dead’ on Netflix for nearly 15 years and the show continues to attract new fans.”
While Netflix gains expanded access to the franchise, AMC will continue controlling the intellectual property and receiving revenue from licensing agreements. The company views the deal as a significant financial opportunity as traditional television faces declining audiences.
The partnership also strengthens Netflix’s position as a major destination for established entertainment franchises. By adding the complete Walking Dead universe, the streamer aims to attract both longtime fans and new viewers discovering the zombie saga for the first time.
