Recap of Episode 2:
Mameda practises posing like her father at the beginning of the episode. She is instructed to stop practising by the chief since tanukis are no longer allowed to play practical jokes on people. Mameda mulls over what the chief told her and what her father said to her when she got home. She resolves to give her all in her rakugo classes with Bunko. In her tanuki form, Mameda intrudes onto the stage. Mameda is again enchanted by Bunko’s narration as he starts a story.
Knowing Mameda is there, Bunko enters her room and urges her to go when she’s finished. Mameda begs Bunko to teach her how to emulate her, but Bunko rebuffs her request outright. She warns that she won’t be as forgiving if she asks again. An elderly man with a cat tells Mameda that Bunko lives there, so she pursues after her and eventually finds her home.
When she follows the sound inside, she discovers Bunko bathing. She detects Mameda and attempts to use fox fire to strike her, but Mameda avoids the attack. Mameda makes the decision to come up with an alternative strategy in the hopes that it will persuade Bunko. In order to give Bunko her fan during the performance, she intends to steal it. Bunko would believe she found it for her in this way. The odd cat of the older man steals Mameda’s fan. She fights the cat on top of a tram while pursuing it in her tanuki form, then returns to where Bunko is waiting with it.
Mameda gets admonished by Bunko for being so careless when she falls into her arms with the fan, but she persuades Bunko to educate her. She tells Mameda to take any available education. When Bunko learns that Mameda transforms back into her tanuki form as she sleeps, she makes the decision to assist her in mastering that first.
